Wonder what the situation is with Mateta, not on the bench, not playing for the U23s, although 3 overage outfield players and a goalkeeper can play, there was many contradictory reports on the loan/transfer, has he gone?

I thought he was here for a loan period of 18 months. Let’s keep him as back up until that period is over at least, it would only take an injury to one of our forwards and we would be light on numbers..
In dog beers I’ve only had one. |

To be honest, why would you keep a presumably highly paid player who you know isn't good enough rather than giving experience (if push comes to shove and there are injuries) to a lower-paid emerging youngster who might be good enough and if he's not, well, you're no worse off than you were with Mateta. I think Mateta has to be written off at this point as one of those who just haven't worked out and, that being the case, I'd move him swiftly on. I can't imagine a reasonably big-name player with high expectations and on decent wages and who is pretty much entirely outside the frame is going to add much positivity to the environment. Some deals work out, some don't. Move on.

The Problem is nobody knows what the deal is, accept Parish and co, he may already have passed the mark where we have to pay 13m at the the end of the loan.

If his loan does get cut short he'll be going back to Mainz with them in a much better position than when he left (currently 5th in Bundesliga). I think they were in the relegation zone when he left. Doesn't really seem to be working out for him here but the loan fee was worth the risk and he'll be remembered for a nice goal against Brighton.

I does seem, ridiculous, but its what Transfermkt say, and they are a German company, and one of the providers works PR for Mainz

Parish would have known that Roy was going at the end of the season, so perhaps the manager we thought we were going to get recommended him, then decided not for come, who knows, Nothing until the latest transfers has always seemed a mystery

I'm inclined to think that if the 15 game scenario is correct, then Palace have seen enough of Mateta to know that they won't be taking up an option to buy. From what I have seen of him, Brighton goal aside, he looks quite raw - almost like an U23 player promoted to first team too soon.
