Generally root for the English sides. Although it's always a stretch to retain a European title, Chelsea look an even better side this year with the addition of Lukaku. They'll be one of the favourites. Barca, Madrid and Juve are all relatively weak at the moment so it's probably only Bayern or PSG who can challenge the top English sides, and there's major question marks over PSG's ability to go all the way. Messi certainly helps. City will do it eventually I'd imagine - Chelsea have shown if you throw enough money at it you'll get there in the end.

Bayern Munich are always a class act and never to be discounted. Considering how amazing the Dutch national team often are, it is surprising at the relative lack of CL silverware from their clubs.
Staeua Bucharest anybody ?

Staeua Bucharest anybody ? The Dutch clubs are generally selling teams - Ajax got to the semis in 18/19 (when they lost to Spurs) and then got raided for Ziyech (Chelsea), Van de Beek (Man Utd), De Ligt (Juve) and De Jong (Barca). Mourinho's Porto are probably the last real underdogs to do it but the gap between the super clubs and the rest is growing by the year.

I watch the odd game if I'm bored. Usually the final. Never particularly care unless there's an underdog or some particular heroes or villains for the season. I particularly don't care when, like last year, teams buy themselves into the final.

English teams aren’t full of English or British isles players so I usually don’t care. It’s stashes of money vs stashes of money. Soul and identity has gone.

Staeua Bucharest anybody ? How bout this team from an un-recognised country . . . Currently 1-0 at HT V Shakhtar Donetsk, mind you they got 2 'easy' teams to play Real & Inter in group D. Edited by eagleman13 (15 Sep 2021 6.41pm)
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Footballers themselves are fairly mercenary. You seen any big Russian clubs ? i wonder if those players can even speak Russian ? or hack the minus thirty degree weather ? Gareth Bale did Real Madrid vs Athletico even though he doesnt have a bulls-notion about the Spanish Civil War. Its all about the fans.

I never watch the matches unless I happen to be in a pub when it is on. I'm happy to laugh at English clubs if they lose to supposedly inferior opposition. I remember being in a pub watching the '99 final. I started wanting Barca to win but ended up wanting Moan U (and feeling very dirty about it).
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |
