Website so slow

Why is this website so slow? It's been slow all afternoon and came close to freezing at the end of the Spammers match, when we all want to see the match thread. I broke a rule of a lifetime and switched to cpfc bbs instead.

It's getting old, like the rest of us..... Tuesday night, I spent an hour watching the little loading 'circle' going round and round and simply couldn't get into the site..... gave up, got some gin and read a book instead.
A stairway to Heaven and a Highway to Hell give some indication of expected traffic numbers |

If the speed doesn't improve, people will turn elsewhere. On the bright side, then the speed will improve...

Mainly because it's built on code written about 15 years ago, and I don't have the time thesedays to improve it.

I can't see that anywhere, only that it was designed by Guntrisoft Ltd. I can't find a website, which is odd for a software company. Seem to be based in Petts Wood is all I can find. I occasionally dip into Palace Warriors and bbs, but I infinitely prefer HOL for it's content, layout and most of the folk who participate. Some are downright rude and appear to have more interest in verbal fisticuffs, but are best ignored. The site does certainly slow down on occasion and it becomes frustrating so I'm sure there would be support to help if there was a process to follow.
