The new razzamataz hundred is here. It is quirky, fun. A good well-behaved crowd enjoying the sunshine and entertainment, so what is wrong? Well nothing much, except the quality of the cricket is not great and the format hardly differs from T20. When a maximum is hit, a banner appears saying 'yeah'. Fantastic.

Secondly I won't pay to watch any cricket in which my team isn't involved whether that be England or county I don't watch IPL or Big Bash for that reason as I don't have any interest in franchise cricket

'Oh yeah' I watched it out of interest. Sets of five instead of overs. I believe a bowler can bowl consecutive sets. It frankly seems pretty similar to 20-20 as it's what 20 balls less? Fielding is crucial and spinners seem to be the way. I suppose if it gets people into cricket it's not a bad thing. However, just a further step in the demise of the test and county game. England are great at the white ball game but from what I've seen the test batting doesn't cut it. Ireland beat South Africa last week. A few notable scalps now. Just had to get that in.

Yes, it's 'one of them'. It draws in new audiences, but possibly dilutes and sport as a whole. A bit like of the these 'influencer' boxing matches that take place now. Sure it's a new angle, brings in massive $$$ and millions of new viewers, but aren't they just shifting the sports away from what people actually enjoyed about them for many decades prior. For cricket fans Test cricket will always be the pinnacle and most Tests in England will continue to be sold out unless the ECB make a mess of the scheduling again as they did when they gave Headingly and Durham a test match each against the same opposition a week apart when both venues are after the same people. The other way that the ECB are killing off Test cricket is by marginalising the county game by scheduling the matches either earlier in the season or at the end. Any reasonable bowler can take wickets when the ball is swinging all over the knot end but County cricket isn't conducive to teaching bowlers to take wickets in the sort of conditions that we would meet overseas

The worst thing about it is the Sky Commentators. Why do they keep telling us how fantastic it is? I'll probably get shot down in flames but the women offer little in the way of entertainment and pack their sides with overseas players that produces little local interest. At least the men had 6 Surrey players so there was some affiliation.
