Mark Cavendish has just won his 3rd stage of this years tour.
33rd in total.
One behind the all time total of 34 by Eddie Mercx, but we should discount him as a known drug cheat.
Cav is already the greatest sprinter of all time.
Legend

Yep, brilliant that Cavendish is so close to Mercx' record. It's possible he could reach it before the end of the Tour. He's a tough cookie for sure having recovered from some really nasty crashes in the past and, if memory serves, he suffered from a serious illness a few years ago. And at age 35, no spring chicken either.

I used to cycle a fair bit in days of yore and I remember one time riding up Crystal Palace hill to watch some bike racing on the old motor circuit. It nearly finished me off.

How these guys on the Tour race for three weeks including some of the steepest climbs up the Pyrenees, Jura and Alps is beyond me. I know someone is bound to say 'drugs'. But most, if not all of them now, are clean.

Anyway, good to watch from the comfort of the sofa. Some beautiful French scenery.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

The Manx Missile strikes again.

Just shows what can be done, illness and loss of form thought he was finishing up.

Some top sprinters not there but he did the business alright.

He seems to have his mojo back, which in a straight sprint, normally means he wins.

You can only beat what's put in front of you.

That stage was vicious today.
Made my climb up Crystal Palace hill all those years ago look like a ride round the garden.

Certainly was.
Merckx had to be given oxygen after collapsing at the summit a few years after.
