I wonder whether any readers were at the match described below. Even if not, the description might provide a break from the interminable, tedious and sterile thread about our non-manager.

That winter I was based in Scotland, and a good friend was so impressed by our 4th round win at Southampton that he put pen to paper the following day. During another pandemic clear-out I came across his letter. He wrote: "Palace had 70% of the play and might have had 4 or 5 goals. They played good open football and I've never seen them better. It was a pity that the general standard of play deteriorated in the second half. It was foul-a-minute stuff with each side equally to blame. On the Palace side the main offender was Burnside, and believe it or not, throughout the match Bert Howe didn't commit a single foul, perhaps because he was playing right back" (i.e., not his normal side). "Peter Burridge was great as a wing half, but Horobin must be about the most useless forward since Uphill. His first centre to Holton was great, but after that he faded. Our second goal was terrific. Cliff took a corner on the right and hit it as hard as he normally shoots. The ball was still rising on the far side of the goal when Smith headed it in. Even the Saints supporters admitted that they had never seen a corner like that. Bobby Kellard had a great game, but it was a pity he handled the ball unnecessarily to give away a penalty. Still, we won - now for Spurs, Chelsea or Manchester United at home."

(We beat Nottm. Forest at home in the 5th round, then went out to Leeds.)

I'm pretty sure quite a bit of the Forest game was broadcast on the wireless.

I went to the Forest and the Leeds games with my Father and Grandfather. The Leeds game was played on a Wednesday evening but I can’t remember why it was postponed on the Saturday a frozen pitch or something I guess. It was a very dirty game I do remember but this was the start of the. Revie era with the likes of Bremner, Giles, Charlton and Hunter. I think it was also the first time there were over 40 thousand in Selhurst.
My Dad kept a scrap book of that season have attached photo of match report hope you can read it ok.

I have the programme from the Leeds quarter-final, although it was before my days as a Palace fan. I recall that I bought a job lot of programmes at a jumble sale in the late 60s or early 70s.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I was at both games.
The Forest game was special in that I hadn't seen us do any giant killing before that. The quality of the goals too, especially Peter Burridge's volley as he was falling.

I have a vague memory of hearing Cliff Holton's goal on the radio.

Yes, that was a very special goal, he was my favourite player at the time

That cup run was a bit special to anyone old enough to remember and, indeed, attend the games.

Prior to 64/65 season we'd been a club playing our football in Div.3 South and then Div.4, apart from 4 seasons in the 2nd Div. many years before. However, after promotion in 63/64 to the 2nd Division we felt like a club on the up and a good cup run helped cement that feeling.

I went to the home games against Bury, Forest and Leeds with the Forest game being the highlight.
