Soaking up the rays this morning, trying to get Nuno off my mind, reading a James Patterson with a cold beer on the side. I reached a part where our hero was at an address on East 84th Street, off Third Avenue.

It got my attention because, silly I know, their street names and numbers are one of the things I like about America. Some will remember 77 Sunset Strip on TV. I was a big fan of Kookie and the address always fascinated me. One time on holiday in America I drove around looking for 77. Not there. That road is 22 miles long.

I like the fact that folk are very patriotic and they fly the Stars and Stripes at every opportunity. I dislike, and disagree with, their gun laws.

It's also a country of contradictions. A 16 year old can drive a big Chevy, an 18 year old can buy an AK-47 but it's not until they're 21 that they can go in a bar for an ice cold Bud. How wierd is that?

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to live there. I'm happiest here in England.

But there are lots I like about America and some things I don't like.

Free speech is never perfect but I think the US have the best laws on protecting expression in the world. But they need to do a better job on ensuring corporations aren't abusing those laws.

I have mixed feelings about the gun laws.

I have mixed feelings over the healthcare laws.

I want them to relent and start using English spelling.

But in total, I believe in transatlanticism and our cousins across the pond.

They certainly helped us win WW2, an incredible ally of ours. Although in some films you'd think they won it on their own.

They've also thrown their troops into other conflicts around the world, always with the intention of keeping the world safe for you and I.
