Seen him a few times, looks promising. Would bring him back if going to get some opportunities. Agreed another loan should be in the Championship.

Agreed another loan should be in the Championship. Our U23 is now in the top flight. It will play to a higher standard than before against better teams. An alternative would be making him a regular in that team with first team cameos in the Cup or better if there is a space and his performances merit it.

Is sending a player out on loan always for the best? I don't know. We bought Banks in because he was considered a good prospect and presumably a potential first teamer, but that begs the question as to how far off it was considered his potential was to be being realised. He will be 20 shortly after the new season starts so of an age when the club should have a good idea of a players prospects and whether they deserve a squad place. I understand the arguments for sending a player out on loan, but sometimes it seems to me that it is just delaying making a decision as whether the player is good enough or not. I wonder how many players who go out on loan return to their club and go on to great things, either with that club or elsewhere? Edited by Pete53 (09 Jun 2021 12.09pm)

Edited by Pete53 (09 Jun 2021 12.09pm) If you follow Chelsea's method of buying up every half decent youth player going, then about 3 in 100 looking at the number of on loan players they have and how many eventually make it into the first team. I agree about Banks, he must be getting close to the age where we will know whether he is good enough. Then the decision is bring him into out U23s or loan out to a better standard of club than currently. Given our recent promotion I would be tempted to bring him back in house and play for the U23s.
