You’ve gotta try - haha. And an extra 20-30 through the turnstiles at this level means a lot to clubs.

I think you’d be surprised at the standard. Tooting have seen players go to Middlesbrough, Charlton and Reading in the last 18 months.

200 tickets sold to date. May not sound many but a crowd of 300 plus means survival in these difficult times - no football since November when the league was ditched.

It’s worth remembering that Ian Wright started at this level (Greenwich Borough) and Michail Antonio came through the Tooting youth system. The two lads who recently went to Middlesbrough and the lad that went to Charlton have all made their first team debuts.

The struggle that Croydon and now Whyteleafe have had and are having to survive should be of concern to the professional game. There’s a lot of talent out there that doesn’t necessarily come to the game via top clubs Academies.

I often used to prefer non league matches and saw plenty of players who went on to be household names. It was always funny knowing everyone in the crowd too. Although that was almost possible at Selhurst sometimes.

Fitting in a game at this level is good for the soul. And you can still have a pint on the terrace while you watch.
