I couldn't believe this on the BBC, but it is also reported on local papers in Hull.

Agreed it's not good however this is a new tri-party deal that Norway has implemented with the EU as well. The deal is in place just not the annual quotas. It's not clear has Norway agreed the quotas with the EU? The Norwegians are playing a canny game apparently the stuff they catch in our waters is seasonal and that is now over for this year so their fisherman are in no rush to agree quotas. Still Boris should get on his bike. Edited by Badger11 (02 May 2021 10.31am)

Yep, agree, already posted that bbc link here: Every piece of cod bought and consumed in the UK from Norway (which will be the overwhelming source) will mean most of the money going into EU coffers. Do you think Johnson/Farage care? Of course not.

The Norwegians are one of those nations that portray themselves as these cuddly Nordic types who embrace all the usual BS but really, when push comes to shove, are pretty ruthless b******s. Always liked them. But this is a definite loss. No two ways about it. A tick in the negative box for the UK. Difficult to get a balanced view of what has gone wrong but from what I can make out, it's the fall out of the EU trying to keep its full quota of Norwegian fish, even though the UK has now left and has sort to agree a separate amount. The Norwegians already take fish out of our waters at a rate of 8-1 in their favour so I guess that will stop now but that seasonal factor kicks in so I guess the impact will not be significant, at least in this trading year. But as I have said before, this is clearly not a good situation for the UK and no point in trying to paint this as anything other than a loss. I just hope we hit back hard. Norway exports far more to us than it imports so now would be the time to flex our financial muscle, if possible.

Yes I would hurl our 2 trillion debt at the Norwegians straight away. And build an HS2 extension to Aberdeen to save the union especially now everybody will be working from home. Brexit, indeed the UK, is just Cameron and Johnson's old etonian playground. No prizes for guessing who the mugs are.

I checked with my neighbours in Barton Upon Humber who are a fishing family. They say the BBC story is one sided, in general terms they are very happy with the changes Brexit will bring and expect further improvements as negotiations go on. The BB can't help themselves, there is a lot more to commercial fishing than cod and haddock
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

The BB can't help themselves, there is a lot more to commercial fishing than cod and haddock Up in the north of Scotland they are delighted that we have no agreement with Norway. Apparently, the EU had been using British waters as a major give-away to guarantee their own fleets access to Norwegian waters. This is why these talks have stalled because the EU is desperate to hang onto access but now lacks British fish to trade by way of doing so. Now lets not pretend that this is in anyway a 'win' for the UK because its not but it is more nuanced than the reporting suggests. (added later)....LOL. That will teach me to check dates. Only out by 11 years- Cannot win them all! Edited by Matov (03 May 2021 7.20am)
