Di Canio's "decisive kick"

In the 2000 Premier League, Everton vs. West Ham United. By the last minute, the score was still 1:1. At this time, the Everton goalkeeper was suddenly injured when he made a punt, and the ball rolled to the opponent's Di Canio. He was only 10 meters away from the goal, and he could kick into the "undefended" goal with a light kick.

At the critical moment, Di Canio did not make a "decisive kick", but bent over and held the ball firmly into his arms. The entire football field was silent for a moment, and then there was thunderous applause!

My memory of that incident was that the ball came over at head height and he caught it. But the details of such an extraordinary and sporting gesture don't matter. I remember that 'arry wasn't 'appy. Di Canio is also the only player I've ever seen push a referee over.

I remember the push - had forgotten about it as it was so long ago. He got fined a bit- 10,000 quid and got an 11 game ban too - 3 for the red and 8 for the push(had to Google that to find out).

Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping.

Thanks for that. 'arry was far more gracious in the interview than I had recalled.

I wonder whether anyone can post the ref-pushing incident. Interesting to see how long elapsed between the push and the fall.

It's a shame that the clip cuts off just before DiCanio nods towards Winterburn, who s**ts himself, and disappears into his shell.
