Hopefully justice at last for the sub-postmasters, many who have had their lives ruined by the post office. Just breaking that 39 have had their convictions quashed. The post office computer system, Horizon, falsely reported short-falls in their takings. The behaviour of the post office, they must have known this despite what they did to these people.

I heard about this on the radio about a couple of years ago. I can't imagine what it's been like to live with this hanging over you for so long, and a few have not lived to see this verdict. Absolutely shameful cover up and it would be wonderful if those responsible were somehow put through similar feelings by a case being brought against them.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

For 40 odd postmasters to all suddenly start taking the spoils, even though it would trace back to them, seemed an obvious error, but charging them and ruining them, financially or through prison, was unbelievable. The fact that gov.uk didn"t intervene to an obvious cock up , sadly, doesn"t suprise me, they probably welcomed the news distraction so they could get their hands full!

Just read there were something like 700 cases! Should have rung alarm bells somewhere, unbelievable. Unfortunately those responsible will have long retired on nice pensions no doubt

Only mentioned gov.uk, as it was such an obvious error by the post office, you would imagine someone at the top of the tree, ie gov.uk, could have started an inquiry, enough for the post office to investigate and come to the huge error judgement.

Being sorry is not enough. This was malicious prosecution, the PO knew full well their system was at fault, and pursued these people in that knowledge. Let them pay in the same way as they meted out to others.

Labour. PM Tony 'treasonous' Blair. Followed by in 2007 Gordon Brown. Just saying.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

I thought you had been warned off sending sweets to people! Wasn’t DanH was it? I agree postage is outrageous. I also agree large compensation payouts are due, 1 poor Sikh guy spent over 3 years in prison and a woman was imprisoned when pregnant, really couldn’t make this up. Unfortunately any compensation payouts will ultimately be added to your postage. Cheaper to deliver personally

In addition to quashing the sentences, the Court of Appeal also ruled that the 39 convictions were also "an affront to the public conscience". That, I believe, opens the door to malicious prosecution. Nothing really compensates for what these people have gone through, however.
