I thought some sort of massive incident had happened. Forced broadcasting across all BBC radio channels announced by some sort of autotune computer voice followed by a full rendition of the national anthem. If it was the Queen, sure, but Phil? Leave it to the press office and put out a statement.

Segueing from Jayda G into that was a bit jarring.

Here’s a thought..

I wonder if Meghan will come over for the funeral and if so, what sort of reception will she get.

Whatever she does she will be wrong.

Hate that bitch

RIP Philip

All eyes on Megan and Harry’s return to the limelight for this one,
No doubt

Been watching The Crown with the missus while working out in the mornings, so I feel like I know him better than I did, albeit only through a dramatization.

Think what you like about Phillip, but he was a real character but with the human failings that all of us have.

We wondered if he had died some time back, and they were keeping it under wraps but in any case, the beginning of the end of an era.

The question is will Harry's controller allow him to return to the funeral??

RIP

Here's a great story of one of his actions during the war (when he was fighting actual Nazis) - I found it really interesting.

I hope the family will rally around the Queen.

Oh, except Harry of course.

Sad but not unexpected. Great bloke, called a spade a shovel. I liked that. Some people do have slitty eyes - what's wrong with saying so?

Wonder if the Queen will hand over to Charles/William now? Time to call it a day methinks.

RIP old chap. Forever a supporter of the Palace.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Met a guy who ran the Duke of Edinburgh awards i think he's retired now.

He had a lot of time for Phillip met him many times said he was a good bloke unlike Andrew.

As for his so called gaffs most weren't. Phillip realised that people were often tongue tied and embarrassed so he broke the ice with a joke and it worked. The only people who got upset about it were the media.

Anyway my contact said at the time that Edward will become the new Duke of Edinburgh, we shall see.

RIP Phillip you did your duty, respect.

Although not a monarchist, this is sad news. The Queen and Prince Philip have been a constant throughout my life - I was born in 1953 - so it is a bit of my own background history that has gone.

He was a character and was able to provide a bit of informality to offset the Queen's need to conduct herself with tact, dignity and reserve.
