Cucking Funt Clapham on the Back 12 Mar 21 5.08pm | |

Canned. While political satire is to be actively encouraged, especially in the face of unprecedented corruption in government these days, the Mash Report suffers from being simply not funny. I don't even think it was particularly left wing as some seem to think - it simply failed as a vehicle for satire. Hopefully there'll be some kind of successor, perhaps with some more likeable presenters.

It wasn't particularly funny, granted, but then it wouldn't have been allowed to be. To be satirically funny would be impossible nowadays. Something like Monty Python could never happen now, and recently an attempt was made to bar one of the episodes from being shown. Mash was also fronted by a mixed race man with a beard, hardly John Cleese.

We really need a specific TV company that only produces offensive material. Make it clear from the onset that if you are likely to be offended then don't watch it. That simple. Accross the board now it appears that people metaphorically bend the knee to anybody who takes offence and it is getting beyond ludicrous. Naturally, I lay the blame for this pathetic state of affairs at the doors of the Left but the Right are becoming just as bad now, by way of a response. The only organisation that I feel has a duty of care not to be offensive is, oddly enough, the BBC. If we are forced to pay for something then it is only right that it seeks to ensure that its content is as harmless as possible. And probably, a bloody good reason to abolish it along with dozens of others. But other than that, the more offensive the better.

I agree M, and I must say that your brexit posts fall into that category.

I suppose what people find funny will always depend on the individual but I found the Mash Report hilariously funny and often very telling as it mercilessly exposed hypocrisy. It was particularly good at showing Trump to be the false prophet that he undoubtedly is and for that alone I will always be grateful. I think it's really sad that such a refreshingly unrestrained show as this is being withdrawn. I will miss it and hope that it will be replaced by something even better. We need programmes like this to mock those who preach to us. The thing about the Mash Report was it didn't just attack everything from a political perspective. It attacked hypocrisy, wherever it was found and offered praise where it was due. That it found more hypocrisy in Trump and Johnson is simply because they were the ones making the running and being hypocritical.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |
