Out for 218

Third huge innings in three tests.

Often failed to go on to make the really big scores but really in form at the moment.

Is closing in on being England’s second highest ever test run scorer.

I was wondering if his batting was suffering due to the Captaincy. He seems to be doing a Cook on it now.

It is a very rare thing for an English batsmen to have such command over an Indian spin attack in the sub-continent.

From a cherubic youngster to England's master batsman, I've followed every minute and don't forget he is an excellent slip field and more than useful spin bowler.

His captaincy record is up there too.

As Joss Butler says, watching him is an education for the squad.

Doing a 'Willo' here, apologies in advance mate.

He is the 3rd English batsman to score a 100 in his 100th test after Colin Cowdrey & Alex Stewart, he is the 1st cricketer EVER to score a double century in his 100th test.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

A great England victory against India.

Root's match is there anything he cannot do?

Great to see cricket back on Channel 4, reminds me of being glued to it in 2005.

That over, by James Anderson, removing the threatening India top-order, will live in the memory.

I have been watching most of it - one advantage of lockdown / working from home! I think England really benefitted from the 2 tests in Sri Lanka on real turners before going to India. This wicket was a road for the first couple of days compared to the wickets in Galle.
An excellent win, but they need to win 3 or 4 nil to qualify for the world test championship final so plenty of work ahead.

Gutted to have missed the over and just woke up to the headlines - can't even find it on youtube!

It was a complete performance, dominated the best team in the world in their own back yard from start to finish. Let's hope we can keep up the good form to lead us into The Ashes.

I was critical of the batting tactics after tea yesterday and felt they could of put the India win out of the equation earlier than they did, but the tactics worked perfectly and I'm delighted to be eating pie.

Test cricket is what we need on terrestrial to pick up the interest, not this Hundred baseball bull$hit.

I don't think WTC will fly personally, or the Hundreds seems a bit dotty when there is already T20.

You can see the highlights on All 4 from 19:00 tonight and the previous days there.

I want some of his blood transferred into each of our first team as he's in the form of his life!
Following the run-around that Leeds gave us on Monday we need all the help we can get at the moment.

Brilliant bat - not sure of his skippering.

Has to be something wrong when a test match pitch starts disintegrating on the first day, the ball penetrating the surface on bouncing.

On the second the match seems almost over.

My guess the Indians panicked after losing the first on an adjoining strip and didn't prepare it properly.

The match referee can fine them points but I don't think there is a further penalty.

And the DRS, it ain't infallible, the third umpire at fault 3 times favouring India, Jack Leach comparing it too VAR.

Root must exert pressure to get a decent pitch for the next match.
