Saw this and made me smile. "As back bench interventions go, it was one to remember. Sammy Wilson shouting "go to the chippy", as the SNP"s westminister leader Ian Blackford warned about empty supermarket shelves post brexit. Two years on, and the same DUP MP is now the one shouting about empty supermarket shelves and pleading for government intervention". Taxi for Sammy?

I believe there is an issue with the supply of certain fresh vegetables and fruit. In Northern Ireland. Ulster Fry anybody? Hardly known for is vegan cuisine is it? They will survive.

There have been issues with the supply of certain vegetables and fruit even in Kent so it would be interesting to know if they are the same ones?

After the fiasco over contaminated meat it was clear that supermarkets have long and complicated supply lines and really didn't have a clue where their stuff came from. You would have thought that they would have learned their lesson and untangled this Gordian knot. It's true that the deal came very late in the day but if you were on top of your business you would have realised that whatever the outcome deal or no deal being able to identify where your stuff comes from would be a pretty basic first step to complying to whatever the new regulations were. I worked with M&S senior management on a project and they were awful so the Percy Pigs saga is not a surprise to me all they have to do is export them from Germany direct to Ireland. They will sort this out in the coming months but it maybe bumpy in the mean time, especially with the COVID restrictions on truck drivers. Edited by Badger11 (17 Jan 2021 9.40am)

Sad to admit i was in Lidl tonight about 6 customers in the shop so not busy there was an abundance of all fruit and veg.So there may be a shortage of certain fruit vegetables but if my memory serves me right this often happens in January. It is only in the last 10 years that strawberries have been available all year round.

There is a simple answer to this assuming that the EU wants to be sensible and bearing in mind the ROI seems to be suffering the most you hope they would. The EU is concerned with white labelling where a UK firm imports cheap goods from outside the EU slaps a union jack on them and re-exports them to the EU avoiding duty. Percy pig and co do not break those rules so why not have a authorised suppliers list. The supermarkets sign up on pain of fines that they will obey the rules and therefore do not have to provide the paperwork for every truck delivery. This should resolve the majority of the issues for both sides.

Only shortage of stock I have encountered is that Waitrose no longer seem to have my favourite jars of chilli paste for sale. Rather annoying. I thought we had a trade agreement with Mexico in place? If this how it is going to be I would never have voted for Brexit in the first place. Lord Adonis, you might have been right all along.
