WE went back to work on Monday, by Wednesday the top ftse 100 bosses had already earned what their average workers will earn in a whole year( £30k). I"m all for talented people earning a great wage, but earning what your average workforce earn yearly, in just 3 days, is taking it to far! If the masses as i suspect on here don"t want the top brass to take a pay cut as they deserve every penny, their is a solution to this stat and stem the greed that is taking over this country, from politicians cronyism to city bankers, pay the workers more!

This gets banded around every year. It's only 100 people ffs and in comparison to what those companies are worth it's still a drop in the ocean. There are roughly 5 times as many Premier League footballers. Pretty much every player in the Palace squad makes that in the first week of the year. Yet the same people who complain about CEO's are asking for Parish to spend more money. Do you think Zaha should take a pay cut so we can give more to the guy selling burgers? A singer/band/youtuber can command far more than that for just one appearance or endorsement. If you want to help people make a better life you won't do it through politics of envy. There's issues that that impact social mobility are generally: - Ability It's not how much the head of the company is earning.

What is an appropriate salary for an individual overseeing a turnover of, say, £50 billion and tasked with preserving, say, 100,000 jobs? (Ballpark Vodafone numbers). Because if you have a pension, i assume you'd like a highly competent individual doing that job? Or maybe you don't care? Or maybe you think the world is not a competitive place?

I would think the top man, working at least a month to get the average workers pay in the 100,000 workers quoted, should suffice, if he /she says no way, say thanks and goodbye, and offer the job out to tender! I can guarantee you, out of that 100,000 workforce, somebody would apply, probably the next man/woman down the ladder, and replace said boss, and probably still oversee the £50 billion turnover without much trouble!

Its your last sentence that makes me feel you don"t feel the world is a competitive place! By opening up the job at the top, putting it out to tender among the 100,000, you have competition! And with the money saved skimming off the obscene salary at the top, you can reward some at the bottom with his share,or employ more people, win win!

I know it's an admirable approach and many many people would agree with you but I'm starting to see why you aren't the director of a FTSE100 company (along with all the people that agree with you). Let's put part of your idea to the test. If it was £5 entry to Selhurst, on the basis of 20 home games a season at capacity, the club would stand to make an income of £2.5m per year. It probably costs around £1m per year just to maintain the ground and training facilities and around £100k in staffing to stage each game (£2m) per year leaving a £500k deficit before any players are paid. The low standard of football would mean that TV and sponsorship revenues would dry up, and the business plan would fail.... much like every attempt in history to make socialism work. Sorry. All the business that support Selhurst Park would also fail, and the government would miss out in millions in tax revenue from players, VAT and all other directly and indirectly created employment. Less money would be available to invest in public services. All the clubs privately financed outreach programmes would dry up, there would be no cage football or kicks scheme that have given the chance for Zaha, Eze, Mitchell, AWB, Clyne to become millionaires. Local pubs and shops would go out of business reducing the amenities available for local people. There would be less demand for public transport so investment would halt. I do have to say that I enjoy watching my own team or my mates far more than I enjoy watching Palace, but that doesn't scale up as spectators lose the connection with the players as the size of the crowd increases. A high quality product is need to attract more people to make the business sustainable.

Smart people wouldn't go for the top job if the reward wasn't there. They are smart enough to realise it's not worth the stress! Especially, if you got much more of stacking the shelves.
