I gather that the Wolves manager roundly criticised referee Lee Mason last night - not for his decisions but for his handling of the players. "Both teams lose their focus", he said. "They are always arguing the decision". "The players get nervous". "Too much voices". "The players are constantly arguing, both teams". "With other referees the decisions are accepted" (oh really).

Well, I didn't see either the game or the interview, but I can hardly believe this irresponsible rant. How about telling your players, Nuno, to maintain their focus, stop disputing decisions, pipe down, and get on with trying to win.

I did see the game and while I rate Nuno Esoprito Santo as a manager this is completely unacceptable.
Diving and cheating and players deliberately falling over to "win" a foul; the searching for penalties, players trailing their legs and deliberately falling over, for me has come to the stage where it completely spoils the game. Where there are a lot of players doing it, the Spanish and Portugese has long made it into an art. Did you see the way Neto tried cheating the ref for a penalty v Chelsea? Within 20 minutes yesterday Otasowie falls deliberately 3 times after no/fair contact trying to buy a foul. Are you surprised he them may not get a decision when there is a real foul? I am totally lost why the diving and cheating does not get called upon by pundits either. Neto man of the match v Chelsea? Why not call him out, I would love to see red cards and retrospective bans for dives. Yet not even yellow's are given and the contact pens are given for is a true joke.

Why the surprise ??
Compare and contrast the amount of cheating, sharp practice and managers moaning about decisions and fixture schedules in top flight football nowadays to pre-Premier League days.
(Clue: Foreign managers, foreign owners & legions of foreign players).

The refs aren't foreign though are they.....

And while you may have a point about diving having been introduced from foreign sources you'd have to admit that the `Brits have quickly caught up.... Owen, Ashley Young, Kane, Vardy, Snodgras, Fraser, Connoly have perfected the act and I am convinced some of them actively practice dives......

See the FA have 'asked him to give his observations' in relation to his comments about Lee Mason live on air in his post match interview.

Basically, you try & convince us not to charge you, oh, hang on, we will anyway.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Fair point, but what was extraordinary in this case - and in my opinion quite ridiculous - was that he specifically didn't criticise Mason's decisions but seemed to blame him for the players' bad behaviour.

NES never made any derogatory comments about the referee's honesty and integrity just made it patently clear that he doesn't believe he is a competent official.

It might have been a case of a microphone thrust under the nose of a disappointed manager immediately after a defeat when feelings can run high and in different circumstances he might have chosen his words more carefully.

You're not wrong there Willo, like hundereds of manages before him.

Don't they talk/play with foreign players ? And to be honest, despite the 'professional' referees, I don't see any discernible improvement in refereeing nowadays.

No doubt about that at all. A few years ago I criticised Pocchettino on this site for a newspaper article in which he openly described how in Argentina they regularly practised feigning fouls, and players who successfully cheated in a match were warmly congratulated. Someone replied that he should have been charged with bringing the game into disrepute. I'm afraid that even then that ship had sailed.

I didn’t see the game but they got a penalty and by some accounts could have had a man sent off late in the game ..

Maybe just sour grapes because they lost to Burnley who have a certain style some might not like ?

Seems to me he is saying both sets of players as usual wanted to get their own way and his mob didn’t..
