time of year, etc, etc

James Stewart in "It's a Wonderful Life". In his political life he persecuted "alleged" Communists to their death. But he was a WW2 hero of US flight crew, previously

I just found out. My (late) Grandfather (on my mothers side) spent 2 days in jail whilst being interviewed over alleged child-abuse for an incident where he was a teacher (1970's).
The WW2 medals he had for combat would break any persons back in weight.

Just, it's all gone,...gone. From hero to c-unit.

And while there was no conviction, we didn't have forensic evidence back then to the detail we have now.
From proud to ashamed

I'm not sure that is correct. Stewart was a republican and did believe that Hollywood had been infiltrated by communists which was a commonly held opinion at the time.

You say persecute to their death do you mean the Senator McCarthy hearings I cannot find any evidence that he was asked to testify. Even if he did he can hardly be blamed for voicing a genuine belief. The blame has to lie with the politicians who set up these witch trials.

innocent until proven guilty ?

you think MeToo is only a modern thing ?

how many innocent people have had their career, livelihood and reputation destroyed by a vindictive rumour monger ?

I was thinking the same. Horrible thing to be told but could it be a person with a grudge? If no conviction, despite lack of forensic assistance, I would be inclined to believe his innocence and remember him as the hero he was. Whatever can never take his bravery away
I realise this may be incredibly difficult though

a real paedo often has multiple allegations, multiple victims over many years.

so maybe light a candle for the old boy and forgive him..... There is at least a glimmer of a chance he is innocent.
