Watching Brentford tonight who are always a good watch as all there players are athletic and comfortable on the ball and think we would struggle to beat them.I find it amazing how their scouting system can find and sign Toney for £5 mill from Posh without us identifying that if Brentford were interested and with their great track record of finding gems in lower leagues we should have stepped in and signed him.

Wouldn’t mind Brentford’s manager to replace Roy next season

Wasn't 5m, hardly needed scouting as he was banging them in for Peterborough

When Thomas Frank took over from Dean Smith after 12 league games,Brentford were 7th. Brentford lost 8 of Frank's first 10 games in charge and it did look as though he would be removed of his duties but the club of course never 'Pulled the trigger' and they got to the play-off final the next season where they lost out to Fulham.

I was led to believe he was given consideration and I might have posted this on HOL.

He has not been a stranger to cards over the seasons.I believe in the last 2 seasons he has collected 12 'Yellows' each season and a 'Red'.He had also collected quite a few cards before that.

Apparently there were Prem clubs interested but he chose Brentford as thought it was a better choice to further his career. Maybe we were one of those clubs that wanted him.

If we ever manage to find a creative midfield (unlikely under the present manager) he would be one to keep tabs on.

Bought from Peterborough for £5m his value is already likely to have quadrupled.

Why is it that Brentford manage to find and buy likely lads from lower divisions or abroad?

Instance Ollie Watkins from Exeter, Benarama and now Toney ....

Perhaps we should sign their scout?

Brentford have two Co-Directors of Football and a Head of Recruitment and have used 'Moneyball' to good effect.

Toney was recruited for £5 Mill rising to £10 Mill.
Benrahma was a £2.7 Mill signing from Nice.
Ollie Watkins was signed for £1.8 Mill + a 15% Sell-On clause.A. Villa paid £28 Mill rising to £33 Mill.
Mbeumo part of the 'BMW' last season cost under £6 Mill.
Maupay whom they sold o Brighton for £18 Mill cost Brentford £1.75 Mill.
Konsa was signed for £1.6 Mill and sold to A.Villa for £12 Mill.

Make your mind up - is it the Manager that finds players or the Scouts ?

Gone are the days when a manager used to drive the length and breadth of the country, often in inclement weather, to assess a player.

In this modern era there are Recruitment teams using modern technology to 'run the rule' over a panoply of players around the globe. There is a great deal of information to be found using technology.

I am often under the impression that in this current era of Roy, the scouting and ultimate recruitment of players is a process which almost completely eludes or excludes the manager.

Whether that is true or not I have no idea, just the impression I get.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
