Believe what you want about me. I say I am a qualified mechanical engineer, and also a qualified teacher in environmental science. This is the internet, bull$hlt all you want. 1. How is the electricity generated to charge the forthcoming electric cars ?

And the most successful electric car to date ? Not the moon buggy , or the golf cart. It was the English milk float, which delivered milk in washed bottles to your door step.

My concern is range. Sure, in theory we only travel an average of 20 miles per journey, but what about trips to holiday destinations which may be more than the car's range? Apparently I've seen it mentioned in the press that we could hire cars for those trips...but, if no diesel or electric cars are to be allowed post 2030, what do I get to drive from the hire company?
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

It is how the electricity is produced as the OP said. Toshiba CEO says hydrogen is the best alternative, not electric.

At least 3 nuclear power stations are planned in the UK (Somerset, Sussex and Anglesey). Wind and Tidal energy is becoming more and more widespread. Having been sceptical, my old work had one and I loved it. The main reason was because the pool cars were always left empty which meant either an extra trip to stores or a petrol station (plus time spent on an expense claim. 90% of journeys are shot journeys. Anyone with a driveway or garage with electricity feed should get one. Pretty much every powered device you need is now rechargeable from your home except for a car. Renewable/domestically produced energy improves the balance of payments and reduces our reliance on hostile or unstable nations.

The sooner we are energy independent the sooner we can tell certain countries to take a hike.

I tried to open a can of worms with my electric car powered tin opener but the battery ran out.

Who would have thought in 1920, that cars in the next century would be capable of being started without a crank handle, driven for thousands of miles without having to open the bonnet, hundreds of miles without stopping? Well, the R&D emphasis in the forthcoming decades will be batteries and charging, particularly under-surface charging, which means that (theoretically) car will only need very small batteries for it's internal systems. So, (theoretically), one will never need to spend any time topping up. Of course, by the time all this becomes part of our lives, most of us will not have one!
