Nice guy never seemed to take himself to seriously loved the advert with the fish jumping out of the river when his songs were being played.

Brought a lot of joy to people who liked his sort of laid back crooning and inoffensive humour.

Was the good natured butt of many a joke on the Morecambe and Wise show mainly because they were best mates, he also guested a couple of times.

Then other lesser comedians got in on the act taking the mickey which he wasn't happy about which I can't blame him for.

Along with Val Doonican and Bruce Forsyth was the last of those old style all round family entertainers.

RIP

I wholeheartedly concur with these sentiments.

What sad news.
Des O'Connor brought such joy to so many over so many years.
Thoughts go out to all his family and friends. RIP.

I had a soft spot for him. His chat show, although admittedly he spent most of the time laughing, was one where he didn’t try to outshine his guests. He always came across as a nice bloke.

The archetypal 'nice bloke'. He didn't exactly have me in stitches, but had a gentle, friendly way about him. RIP Des.

I remember that!! If my memory serves me wasn't Russ Abbott the fisherman in that advert??
