Various reports suggesting that the odds have dropped on Butland to Palace from 16/1 to 4/1 but Liverpool still favourites at 2-1. A good keeper, low on confidence but would be better than Hennessey in my view. If the deal is cheap enough because he is in his last year then this is a good buy. Still only 27 too!

If Wayne is going to be out for several months, as is being reported, the need suddenly becomes urgent. I think Butland would be a good shout - plenty of experience, well known to Roy and, I would guess, at a pretty reasonable price given less than one year on his contract and no longer no 1 at Stoke. I seem to recall, not so many years ago, Stoke wanted £20m+ when he was very highly rated. Now, a deal might well suit all parties.

Good deal- especially if Guaita wants to go back to Spain or gets poached by a bigger club. Both of which seem fairly likely.

I imagine that Butland naturally has very good ‘basics’ to his game but these might have become lost along the way over recent years whilst being at Stoke, becoming de-skilled. If he came here, the coaching team could work with him alongside playing with a higher calibre of player which might be fruitful and we could end up with a quality ‘keeper on our hands!

Good signing IMO. Better back up than Hennessey and, at 27, still plenty of time to recover his confidence.

I’d be very happy with this if true.

Guita is 33 and contract expires next year so it would be wise to make a move for a keeper now so we don’t get held over a barrel next year if Guita decides to move on.

It would suggest it is a good move for him and us. He will be back up to VG, but if we can get him back to near half his best then it is a good purchase. I think he is in his last year of contract at Stoke, so should be fairly low £££

Did I see that it's only 4m as his contract ends in June ? If so, that is a steal.

I haven't followed his career since he dropped out of the PL, but Kevin Phillips (who coached him at Stoke) reckons he's a liability, which is a bit concerning: [Link] It makes me question whether £4m is a steal if he is not even deemed good enough for Stoke. Maybe a move will bring out the best in him, or maybe we'll end up with someone even less reliable than Wayne.
