I'm interested in buying an e bike, but there's so much choice out there, it's confusing, so was wondering if anyone on here owns one, and what do you think of them? There not cheap, and would hate to buy one and then find it's not quite what I was looking for, so any information and comments would be very welcome, I've seen a few on the internet but really don't know enough about them, Boardman seem a good make also specialised have nice ones, so over to you any advice greatly appreciated thank you.

Depends on what you want to use it for, budget etc. CRE. FWIW i have just purchased an e trike here in France. I dont drive, live in a rural area and needed something to get me around and carry cases of cheap beer and wine... Anyway, I think they are great. Just make sure they have quality components especially the battery and motor (bosch or any jap make).

I remember push bikes that had a small engine on the back wheel . Fell out of favour when they had to be taxed . I wonder if e bikes plus e scooters will also be taxed .

To answer your question, it's worthwhile to pay a little more and buy good quality. Buy it off a local dealer rather than the internet as getting spares and service is only for the brave, Get one with a Bosch crank motor and not ones with a rear wheel drive. If you want convenience rather than distance get a foldable one, as you can stick it in the boot of your car, park out of town and ebike in. Below are two links, one from a supplier in the UK (who no longer exports) I still have the foldable model and in 8 years have only replaced the motor once and the battery. The second is a Swiss site, I don't expect you to buy there obviously but it shows some of the possibilities that are out there.

I bought one a month ago. I went to check out an E-go model, they have four foldable models, mostly dependent on battery size/range. In the end, I came away with an EZE-go fold, which has a higher capacity motor. If you want a non folding bike, you can't gett better than a van Moof. Whatever you do, check out YouTube first.

I hired one a few weeks ago. I was a bit suspicious at first because it seems like cheating but totally won over. They are amazing. Travelled 50k and barely felt a thing. Pointless for exercise, but brilliant for getting out and about and seeing things. They are very heavy. The only time the weight was an issue was when trying to do a hill start up a very steep slope. Had to do a quick circle on the flat for 5m so the motor kicked in then it was easy again before attempting climbing. Would get one myself but already have two bikes so can't justify it. Saying that, if I got one, I'd probably get rid of my car as the e-bike would be better for any journey of less that 5miles
