Maybe he is a fallback option for Palace if we are unable to sign Edouard ? Quoted price of £9m seems well within Palace's price range? His form and playtime dropped last season, so possibly a bit of a gamble? He seems to be a goal scoring winger so might be a fallback option if we don't get Watkins? But his tendency to cut in from the right and shoot with the left might be a bit too easy to intercept?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it say Lyon bought him for £9m rather than they'd sell him for £9m? I'd imagine it'd be more than that to buy him.

However, chuck in Sakho and it makes it a very economical move for us.

Sorry, you're right, he was bought by Lyon for £9m. Personally I think we should keep Sakho. When he is matchfit he's our best defender.

A good player.
His price has been volatile. 1 year or 6 months ago Lyon wanted 25-35 million. Now they seem to have deemed his surplus to requirements and will probably accept around 15, maybe less.

One of the few players who can actually play 2 positions at near world class level: inverted foot winger on the right and center forward. He hasn't played much as winger on the left, but I'm sure he can play that too, as it's easier and only requires crossing with your left.

Guy sometimes loses possession trying to dribble, but I still like him.

Chelsea has him in their youth system for a while, but loaned hom out. Won't count as homegrown.

I agree, when he is matchfit he probably is our best defender.

The trouble I get to is, going by his record, he's probably going to be matchfit for 15 games next season and we'll pay him £5m for that in wages. Then he can go on a free as I can't see the club extending his contract at its current level given his injury record.

I just think we can use that money better elsewhere, given how tight cash is at the minute. My reasons for moving him are very heavily financial and Lyon are one of the clubs touted to want him.

Really useful info, thanks Matteo. It does look like Palace are keen on Watkins, who as you know can both play wide and through the centre. But if that turns out to be too pricey, maybe they will have a look at Traore?

Haven’t we be linked to him before? If so maybe lazy journalism

That does make sense, financially. But that would leave us with Tomkins, Cahill and Dann, and Kelly who are all over 30, and prone to their own fitness problems. But I believe Ferguson can also play CB, so that could prove useful? So on balance, yes, if somebody like Lille wants him, that would make sense for him to go.

and Kouyate of course who I believe is at his best at centre half. We do not need Sakho and we definitely do not need that chunk of wage bill.

Would like to see more of him in that role but on the few occasions he has filled in there, he looks ok.

AS for the wage bill. We do, of course, need it but NOT to pay one's man wages. It could pay the wages of at least 3 or even 4 youngsters if we can get them in.

It’s going to be interesting to see where players price will sit this window. I really would like to see us get rid of players based on their being high earners rather than over 30. I agree we need to bring the average age of the squad down - the addition of a few promising young players will do this without having to get rid of players in their early 30’s who have been good servants to the club and can still do a decent job for us.
Traore would be a good addition at the right price.

It's nice to read that we're only one of about 20 PL clubs who are interested...
