It is good to see that in the main on HOL politics discussions it's different points of view reasonably aired and little or no extremism.

I hung around on BBS on one politics thread for a while and it's name calling and very polarised. Every Tory voter is a racist proven by voting in a racist government etc.

In general lot of bemused Corbynistas who can't understand why they lost and have extra vitriol for Starmer and his " Blairite " policies.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I suspect the BBS is merely a mirror in terms of how wider political debate and discourse has become essentially nothing more than echo chambers, especially on the left where the puritanical standards have become narrower and narrower.

The Left has always been far more ideologically purer than the right but up until say 25 or so years ago (probably linked to the fall of the Soviet Union) it had a pretty rigid Marxist ideology around which to mainly dance. Yes, it had its divergences between different sects but essentially, they were all moving in the same direction with a specific goal in mind.

Then comes identity politics. And all of a sudden there are no more rules anymore. It becomes almost a competition to see who can become the most on message with the resulting consequences we see today. The walls narrow and more and more of them are trying to squeeze their way 'into the light'. Except they don't know what actually lays beyond the light. Hence why the modern Left are primarily defined by their 'anti' status as opposed to what they are in favour of.

With the BBS no different. A race to the bottom so to speak. So less and less tolerances and a competition between those charged with moderating to comply with what they see in the world around them.

Identity Dogma is more accurate description than politics because it has taken on many aspects of a new kind of religious mania with nobody having the guts to tell the truth about their Emperor being stark bollock naked.
