I have just heard the sad news.
A tremendous 'innings' of 103.

Thoughts and heart go out to all her friends and family.
RIP.

Apparently she avoided singing to black Commonwealth soldiers.

Just made that up, but I'm sure the BLM will be scouring the net for a nugget like that.

Somehow symbolic of a passing of an era

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

A great lady who was loved by "the boys" and for good reason. She went out to Burma at real risk to herself to entertain the forgotten army.

She with Churchill are the 2 inspirational icons of WW2 she did wonders for our morale. When I hear her sing "They'll always be an England" it brings tears to my eye.

RIP Dame Vera.

I’ve always found her singing We’ll Meet Again very moving because so many people never did.
As an aside who now has the longest showbiz career? Petula Clark must be in with a shout.

Up in Heaven.

Vera has just met the dead soldiers (again).

and they are asking her how they fought to defend their nation from hoards of invader men intent on robbing the land, the houses, the women, the culture, the soul of England.

Lucky Britain won in 1945. You wouldn't want to see the Anglo-Saxons becoming a germanic tribe ?

Speaking Germanish with their kith and kin.

I'm not quite sure that Hitler had kinship in mind for Englanders.
You might recall that Germanic and Nordic tribes had a habit of fighting each other as much as their enemies.

That continued on into modern times. It was all about wealth and expansionism and echoes till this day. Take the British for example.
Did we ever feel all cuddly with the rest of Europe? Nah. Many of us never trusted them for a minute.

Humans just love a bit of tribalism. It never ends.

Indeed.

I suspect that the BLM cultural marxists will criticise the fact that she mentioned "Bluebirds" instead of "Blackbirds".
