How has he scrapped foreign aid? It just been made part of the Foreign Office as it was between 1980 and 1997 when the Ministry of Overseas Development became the Overseas Development Administration.

Why not scrap foreign aid? There's plenty of poverty to tackle in this country as it is.

No he hasn't he has merged the two departments who deal most often with overseas issues.

It is not a surprising move as most countries went down this route some time ago.

I have no problem with Foreign aid. What I object to is doling it out to countries that run nuclear or space programmes.

My brother worked for this department, you are correct. Diff officers treated as diplomats abroad and their offices are predominantly based in the HC/Embassies. Absolutely no reason why they should not be part of the FO

Relative poverty, maybe, but absolute poverty; absolutely not.

Boris has not scrapped the foreign aid budget and until Parliament says so we still have that 0.7% annual spend.

What he has done is to bring some common-sense into the process and abolished a rival to the foreign office.

Politics and money go hand in hand, foreign government that rely on British aid gravitate to the money man. So instead of our Ambassador to that country being the main man the locals cosy up to some sandal wearing beardy charity type from the DFID who had his own ideas about foreign policy and dispensed the largeness sidelining our ambassador.

This is a common-sense move that allows the foreign office to align the money spent to their political ambitions with the local ambassador as the point man.

The next thing we need to do is abolish this minimum spend which is ridiculous it would be better for poorer countries to have favourable trading status with us so they can earn their way out of poverty.

Foreign aid should be used for emergencies such as famines and for strategic projects e.g. better roads and local transport systems.

Foreign Aid has many guises.
Some may see it as kick-backs in order to develop UK businesses.
It can also take the form of stuff we (or others) don't want here. (google , Union Carbide and Bhopal)

The UK has plenty of the population in poverty. Charity begins at home ?

political b0llox, i'm afraid
