If you could have control over the football rule book to make one overall change to how the game is played, what would it be?

As I'm first my change would be to corners.....I don't think enough goals are scored from them.

I would change it so that only five outfield players from each side could be in the penalty box. All the other outfield players have to go to the half way line until five seconds after the corner is taken.

Penalties. The last player to touch the ball should take the penalty.
If pushing from a corner, the person taking the corner. If pushing from a cross, the crossing player.
If running with the ball, that player should take the penalty.
If handball, it should be the last opposing player to touch the ball.

No more of this specialist penalty takers and enhanced goal tallies.

I have a few, all related to time wasting.

The 6 second goalie rule is never enforced. Make it 15 seconds and enforce it. Fourth official keeps track.

Same thing with throw-ins. But make 10 seconds (from when player gets the ball).

Also corner kicks must go at least 10 feet. Stops them continuously keeping it in the corner.

Scrap offside, being a ‘goal hanger’ should be a proper position just like the school play ground or the park when we were kids

Give the linesmen a can of vanishing spray to mark where throw ins should be taken.

Tough one a few things i would consider would be

1. they play real time set so clock stops for all stoppage.

2. offside back to way it was before this whole active in active stuff is stupid.

3. remove some of the stupid new ones they just put in place like 1 player kick off and how goal kicks can be taken.

4. this whole thing about any contact in the box penalty needs to be fixed its not like that outside the box and some of the contact is so soft now that needs to be stopped player are hitting the deck way to easily.

Lots of excellent ideas.

I like the idea of scrapping offside but it would possibly take a lot of skill away.

Lineker made a career out of goal hanging. Although he was good at it.

He was.

Still, in the England shirt, his generation flattered to deceive.

No bottle to go for the throat. Some international teams treat it as a war hypothetically. Germany had to back off against Brazil as no room for prisoners.
We would have lost 8-7

Bring a couple of basketball and rugby rules in:

Five fouls and you are off for the rest of the match but no ban. Stop the serial foulers hopefully.

Once the ball has crossed the half way line it can’t be passed back into your own half which should make for more attacking football.

Yellow cards mean automatic 10 minute sin bin.

Arguing with the referee over a free kick decision results in a 10 yard territory gain to the opposition.

Stop teams piling everyone behind the ball.

Make them have two players in the opposition half at all times. Like the oposite to offside. To acount for the offside rule make it that a pass played from your own half cannot result in the player recieving the ball being offside.

Should make the game a lot more attacking.
