Apologies if a post has already been made about this, but anyone have any idea what the logic behind this new ‘five substitutions’ rule is? Seems like, with all of the money in the game disproportionately with the big teams, we don’t need another way to favor the teams with the money to buy bigger, deeper squads. Anyone have a contrary opinion?

Anyone have a contrary opinion? I guess it's partly an attempt to make the football better because of a better fitness levels, hence more competitiveness. I haven't watched the German football but heard it was boring due to lack of commitment. Perhaps we can avoid some of this. Largely agree with your sentiments though.

I think it was to assist in getting the required votes to resume the season. Of course it helps the bigger teams (what’s new). It wouldn’t surprise me to see this a permanent feature

FIFA proposed the rule change to IFAB, which is responsible for the laws of the game, as players are likely to be asked to play matches in a condensed period of time following the restart of the seasons.

Fitness levels will be down as it's like a new season but at least in a new season they had proper friendlies and tours etc. To protect the players I guess. Even the top players for all sides will be low on match fitness so any could break down with a strain etc.
