Found this while looking up something... Karl Marx thought the Crystal Palace was a vulgar celebration of the evils of capitalism and saw the Exhibition as an "emblem of the capitalist fetishism of commodities". Now you know! [Link]

Karl Marx wasn't black so not really relevant whatever he said. He should have checked his own 'privilege' before writing his and Engels' manifesto.
