Sadly not, mate, but I well remember watching the brief TV coverage. This was part of our 'under the radar' cup run, where a pretty poor team got to the quarter-final without anyone really noticing us! Even then we wuz robbed against QPR on that dreadful bouncing plastic pitch and courtesy of one of the most biased referees I've ever seen. One small Orient memory is of crossing the Thames (I lived in Erith) to see your mob trounce us 3-0 on Boxing Day 1973 - part of the season where we fell through the 2nd Division on the way from the 1st to the 3rd. I remember it for the fact that the match day programme was incorporated into the price of the seat (in the case of my Dad and me) but I don't know if the same applied to those on the terraces. The return league game on 3 March 1974 was I believe the first time Palace (and presumably Orient) played on a Sunday. This was as a consequence of the 'energy crisis', with the government making a concession to allow professional games to take place on the 'day of rest'. I may need someone to check whether or not I dreamt this last bit...but I think that the game at Selhurst was a bizarre reversal of the game at Brisbane Road, in that some quirk of Sunday trading law meant that you were obliged to buy a match day programme (possibly no more that a teamsheet) and then your admission to the match was thrown in for free. Do any other HOL members recall this? Edited by YT (20 Apr 2020 9.18pm) Edited by YT (20 Apr 2020 9.26pm)

Blimey I was at that game, big win for us, put us through to our notorious Clive Allen QPR quarter final defeat. I also went the following Sunday morning when we played you in the league at your place as well, this was before Sunday football was even a thing and after the excitement of the cup game, this one was a 0-0 shocker, neither team or fans wanted to be there Sorry can’t help you with the highlights, but nice to reminisce Edited by monkey (20 Apr 2020 10.18pm)

can't help but I was there - didn't Neil Smilie get the winner? all the best to the Os - my 2nd team, so sad about Justin Edinburgh, a real talent as a manager, saw you beat Paul Lambert's Norwich 2-1 when Russel Slade was boss (I was living off Wanstead Flats at the time), nearly got promoted with him, nice to see you on the way up again, if I chance upon the highlights I'll deliver but I don't have the vid.

thanks for the replies so far. Oh right, good man, thanks for that, I’m not sure I’ve seen it since that night, I was behind that goal somewhere, 17 years old!! Back in the 70’s and 80’s we used to lock horns regular in the old 2nd division days, so I went to Brisbane road a lot, as I said earlier, twice in a week at one stage.

In the summer before last I won £12.50 at the local bookies for a world cup prediction prize - of this I put £4 on Orient at 12/1 for the National League (they won it!) and the same on Pompey for League 1 at 14s with an e/w double - Pompey got caught for 3rd on the final day by Charlton to scupper my place double but the Orient bet came in - I backed Orient simply bcos I always really rated Justin Edinburgh - brought Newport County back to life and was unlucky at Gillingham - played at the top level but he also seemed to have a bit of that charismatic man management which sets the really good ones apart.

Delighted your Orient bet came in, especially as it resulted in seeing the Orient lift the first trophy in over 40 years of supporting them!!

We like true fans who follow true football clubs. As was said earlier, wasn’t that long ago we were playing each other regularly.

Since England won the World Cup, there have only been 4 seasons where Palace and Orient were in the same division. Plus 4 cup ties in that time - a total of 7 seasons where the two clubs have met.
