Who remembers that game? How bad were England that day. the only player who did well was Beckham and he played a blinder. Remember watching it in a pub and going a bit mental when Beckham scored. Found this report surfing the net - a kinda commentary on the game minute by minute: Highlight of the reporting is this part when Greece go a goal up: 32 GOAL: ENGLAND 0 - 1 GREECE Charisteas, the young Greek right back and by far and away the best player on the field so far scores with a brilliant low, hard right-foot shot past Martyn's right hand.As an Irishman, I have to say that this is one of the happiest moments of my life. If England lose and Germany draw, Germany will qualify automatically and England will have to make do with a play-off place against Ukraine or Belarus. The scoreline here is a more than fair reflection on the play so far. The Germans will be delighted with this. I know I am. This is kinda funny too:

Edited by sitdownstandup (13 Apr 2020 8.59am) I think that was Beckham's finest game for England we were awful that day but he drove us on it wasn't just the free kick at the end.

Watched the game in the BHC Club Islamabad so was early hours of the morning . I think I am right in saying that Nigel Martyn made a superb save when it was 1-0, is this correct?

Was all over the pitch, tackling, running, passing. I remember his freekicks as well kept getting closer and closer till he got that 1 in injury time. Mad game though.

I love the way the Irish commentator was sitting firmly on the fence.

A Scots acquaintance told me if ISIS were playing England, that's where the Scottish support would be.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |
