Leave continues accruing, similar to maternity leave. So you can take it and get full pay if and when wished. The law has been changed so that you can carry forward holiday for the next two years. Best therefore to cancel your booked leave and bank it until after the crisis is over. Probably your employer will want to buy it out in the end rather than have you take loads of holiday when they are busy.

If the Government wanted to be really creative they could loosen the laws about taking kids out of school during term time

I wonder if football clubs could furlough their players?

Imagine furloughing Benteke from £120k a week to £2500 a month!

Amazing how more Americanisms are acceptable. I hope it is OK for you Aero and for anyone else who is temporarily laid off.

I've only heard this word once.
That was in 'the patriot' movie.
Before that never.
Ours would be garden leave I think.

Nope, that implies paid whereas this is unpaid furlough

We would probably describe this as enforced unpaid leave.

Furlough is an English word and was used in relation to being demobbed from the forces. They had paid furlough I believe.
