Forest Hillbilly Flag in a hidey-hole 18 Mar 20 8.48am Send a Private Message to Forest Hillbilly Add Forest Hillbilly as a friend

I've heard a few stories in my years about the music industry, some may be truthful, others less likely.

The one that sticks in my mind was something I heard on the radio a few years back (radio 2 or 4, I think)

As Led Zeppelin were being put together as a band.
(and you know the name derived from a music critics comments that the band were going to go down like a lead zeppelin)
Anyways, the story was that Rod Stewart was first choice singer. But Rod turned down the chance, as he believed he would be more successful as a solo artist.
Robert Plant got the gig, as it were.

Anyone got any more

I disengage, I turn the page.

I heard that one about Rod as well. I also heard it was Keith Moon on hearing they were putting a band together said they will go down like a lead balloon which inspired the name.

Terry Reid was first offered the job. I've never heard of Rod Stewart being approached

Reginald Dwight (Elton John) started out very early as a session pianist.
One of his earliest contributions was to the Roger Hodgson's (later to join Supertramp) track, entitled 'Mr Boyd'. I think Reg and Rog were at the same school

The cake on the cover of the Rolling Stones’ Let it Bleed was baked by Delia Smith.

Jumping Jack Flash was originally the name Keith Richards gave his aged gardener.

Axl Rose is an anagram. His real name is Bill Bailey.

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down sounds as it does because when he wrote it Robbie Robertson’s baby daughter was asleep in the next room and he had to write a quiet song so she didn’t wake up.

The lyrics to Suicide is Painless from M*A*S*H were written by director Robert Altman’s 14 year old son Mike. He ended up making more money from it than his dad did for the film.

The Disgraceland podcast is very good for some of the more shock rock n roll stories. The presenter is a bit annoying but the content balances it out and they're only short. Good for a commute.

Just for a moment I read Roy not Roger Hodgson.
