The death penalty should be available as a sentence.

If the justice system was almost 100% foolproof, I would have less of a problem with it. However it is thought that 4% of guilty verdicts are incorrect. Based on this, juries are less likely to find someone guilty is they think they could be killing innocent people. Death row costs a fortune, the alternative is to do away with all of the appeals and accept that a few more innocents are going to die.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

I'm a virtuous hippy so I'm going to say you should just give them all a hug and let them back into society. Unless they are the person who stole my bike, they can hang. And anyone who whistles in public, or people who walk around on their commute reading books or watching netflix when they should be watching where they are going. Anyone who queues up for something for ages only to get to the front of the line and is unprepared for what they have to order. Wearing a blue and white shirt and shouting seagulls. Eskimos. In fact, for pretty much anything that's antisocial or annoying. In fairness, the worlds overpopulated, we have housing, services, and environmental issues. These people know they are wrong and don't offer anything to society. Let them swing with a recyclable rope. First on the list. Prince Andrew and chums - hang them, take there assets, spend it on decent people. (*some of the crimes listed above may only require a taser as long as the perpetrator promises not to roll around the floor dramatically and make loud noises when it happens). Yes ... could save a lot of money in the long run. How much will 34 years in the slammer cost the taxpayer v a lethal injection for the heartless scumbag? Even terrorists get a free bullet or three.

Also, it would not be a mandatory sentence, just available for the worst cases - like the one in the original post. Edited by georgenorman (06 Feb 2020 6.03pm)

I like the Japanese system.....where the death penalty is on the books but it's rarely used.....only for the very worse and cast iron cases.
