Armando Iannucci's next movie is an adaptation of 'David Copperfield' with Dev Patel taking the lead role. I like him as an actor but hang on....Mmmmm....aren't the activist left meant to be very vocal about whites playing non white roles? Are we going to be hearing them complaining about this? I wonder. Sounds like Iannucci missed an opportunity with his 'Death of Stalin' movie a couple of years back. I mean he could have cast Idris Elba as Stalin. Anyway....if they continue on this theme I'm looking forward to a remake of Zulu, where half the Zulus are played by the Tommy Robinson's supporters club. Next movie on Nelson Mandela I'm suggesting Benedict Cumberbatch.

Apparently the critics loved it however I always find the comments from people who paid to see a movie more interesting. Generally it was given an okay but very woke, nothing much to see hear. You often get a disconnect from what the critics see to what the viewers do. The recent adaption of "little Women" is a case in point. The critics loved it and there is much consternation that the female director is missing out on the awards. My lady friend and her girl pals saw it, they are on the left of the political spectrurm so should have been raving about it. General opinion was again okay nothing new previous adaptions were better. So whose right, the critics or the paying public? My feeling is you make films for the public not the critics if the latest David Copperfield is a hit then the director has his answer.

For me it is all about who funds it. If people are willing to risk their own money then who or what they cast in leading roles is up to them. I would not pat money to visit the Cinema to see this but when it comes on TV would probably be willing to give it a go. Dickens is re imagined all the time. Less hung up about than many on the Right about so called casting controversy. For example Idis Elba as James Bond would, in my opinion, bring a new lease of life to what has become a tired format now, especially if they gave him a working class background as well. Fiction is all about the story telling dynamic and if a change is made to enhance that then fine. What I object to is the almost box ticking approach you see in a lot of mainstream TV that adds nothing and only brings derision. If you are going to deliberately cast a non-white actor to a role that was traditionally played by one of us Crackers then at least make the effort to ensure the part is interesting and enhances the plot. Otherwise it is just a patronising form of virtue signalling and helps nobody.

I remember when this site used to be a bit of fun and have some wit and charm about it. Now it's just moaning about absolutely everything with no humour, just bitterness and anger. The internet was a much better place when it was the domain of nerds. Weirdly, they are a lot less sensitive. Nerds also could spot clickbait like "TEH NEW JAMES BOND IS GUNNA BE BLACK - AN YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHO'S BEEN LINED UP TO PLAY HIM/HER!!!!" and let it die where it deserves. But now people let it perpetuate because they just want to get mad about something. Internet 2.0 is dead mate.

I think Idris is now too old if he was the next Bond by the time that movie came out he would nearly be 50 and Bonds are signed for 3 picture deals so close to 60 for the final movie.
