thought I'd watch the first 10 minutes of terminator 2 judgement day last night and lazily watched the whole thing for roughly the 30th time - anyway when the baddie falls in the molten metal and all his past incarnations come screaming out of the magma to that haunting sound track in the background and he finally goes inside out up his arse b4 finally being terminated ... is that both conceptually and visually not the best bit of special effects of all time? some might say skeletons in Jason and the Argonauts or another piece of Cameron, a lot of the cgi of the last 10 years or so is s***e, I'm more of a character and story film watcher not explosions and illusions, but I wud be interested to know your fav bits of film special fx.

It’s mind blowing how well the early CGI of T2 and Jurassic Park hold up against todays effects 25+ years later.

I love some of the 'old' films, in part because the special effects were so bad - but probably the best that could be done with the available technology and resources. Maybe I mean 'quaint' as opposed to 'bad'. Some examples: War of the Worlds (1950s) 2nd edit: Damned autocorrection! Edited by YT (23 Oct 2019 9.02am) Edited by YT (23 Oct 2019 9.03am)

I agree with ‘The Thing’ absolutely horrific, but brilliant, my favourite horror, made in 1982, surely way ahead of its time for special effects

American werewolf in London and jaws The effects in jaws 3 were worse than 1 and 2. That immense shark bashing into the glass tunnel. What? Didn’t bother with 4 on tv, Michael Caine selling out just a load more.
