I was working 30-80 hours on top of my full time hours each month to cover mrs visa issues and bad investment decisions Only now starting to slow down after 7 years of hardly any life. Haven’t even afforded more than two palace matches on that time Sometimes overtime’s essential. But your right Life’s too short There’s a guy in work who even puts me to shame and works all God’s hours. But he’s the type that if he didn’t work....would prob keel over and die because he needs to stay busy and he’s late 70s and I’m 42 Whatever floats ya boat eh Edited by matthau (28 Jun 2019 5.28pm) Edited by matthau (28 Jun 2019 5.29pm)

I should but I cant be bothered. You have a point I discovered my mistake too late. I spent 20 years as a career guy putting in face time in the office, I was paid well and got promoted. A colleague joined around the same time as me but we didn't work in the same department until the end of our careers. He told me he always refused to work overtime as he felt his family was more important (I think he was just lazy). Anyway who was the mug? (Yup it was me). We were both made redundant at the same time on the same salary and grade so where did all that overtime get me. Oh I forgot to mention OT was unpaid in our line of work.

Ow gawd sorry about that. Don't be sorry and I am not angry I was a goal driven person so even if I had known I probably would have made the same decisions in life. It was just ironic that my colleague made the better lifestyle choices and still got the rewards. Many of my friends work in the building trade they put in the hours because they need the money, I did have the choice unlike them.

I wouldn't work for nothing. All this face time and networking trying to get up the greasy pole must pay dividends as plenty do it. Personally, I value money above everything else so I wouldn't work a single minute unless I was being paid for it. When I was employed I worked all the overtime I could get, then recession hit and there were pay cuts, redundancies and all of a sudden people were willing to do the overtime unpaid to gain favour. Scabs. I set up my own business and work more hours than ever, but I make sure I earn out of it. Best thing I ever did.
