For those real conservatives out there who have missed it here's a link to a recent discussion between Douglas Murray and Sir Roger Scruton on the future of Conservatism.

A bit early to be worrying about Christmas presents. Will they be the same price as the Friends series? And what actions will they mimic?

Douglas Murray has a new book out that I'll obviously be getting and so here we have an interview with Douglas and Julia Hartley-Brewer's rather impressive legs.....and that's a worthwhile 55 minutes for me at least.

I heard Douglas Murray on Radio 4 this morning pimping his new book.

He came over as a total prat, full of poorly worked out assumptions which led to illogical conclusions.

He might be the darling of the hard right but he didn't convince me and, despite the howls of anticipated protest, I am a "real conservative". More I would argue than some who are really Brexit Party sheep hiding in Conservative fleeces.

I am a "one nation" conservative. I am just not the kind of Tory now controlling the party and who have drummed out 21 decent MPs for daring to disagree with them.

"Hard right" what does this mean? Because he criticizes those that cannot be criticized?

As he's a gay man I would say his deeply and articulately expressed concerns about Islam are entirely logical and based on and at least partly motivated by self preservation.

It's also funny that Tommy Robinson expressed exactly the same concerns but his status as a straight, working class man offers him less protection.

Real conservatives have little concern for what a weasel may think of a lion.

does the current Conservative party work on behalf of :

a) the British people
b) the British people plus anybody else with a vote
c) investors, party benefactors, bankers,
d) other

before you answer the question you should think about :
- the cover-up of grooming gangs
- open borders
- the level of benefits for the longterm unemployed
- the lack of regulation of the banking sector pre 2007.
- buying a house for a million quid and finding yourself living cheek by jowl with those on welfare.
- the existence of ghettos where a huge proportion of the locals are in receipt of benefits longterm.

Haven't you got an after work 'male feminist' seminar to attend or something?

I have no opinion on the man's politics. I assume from what he said, and that he writes for the Telegraph, that he is not a socialist but just where on the right leaning spectrum he could be placed is unknown to me. I don't follow him and from what I heard won't be starting anytime soon.

My remark was about those who seems to comprise his fan base and not the man himself.

I haven't heard him on Muslims, only on what he was banging on about in the interview. Which was some imaginary "culture wars". I now know where one our most prolific contributors gets some of his weird ideas.

People will write almost any old nonsense just to sell books and make some money. Just as they will find a convenient campaign to rouse the rabble on. It's a free world and if people are daft enough to read/listen to them that's their responsibility. Just don't count me in.
