Just herd on Talk Sport that MP's are close to changing legislation on safe standing and it could be relaxed for top 2 leagues in time for next season.

Think this be be a great move in some areas of the ground, better atmosphere and perhaps a great capacity.

Thoughts?

That’ll be in 2-3 years for Palace to sort out then. Plenty of time to p1ss people off unnecessarily in the meantime.

One hopes that all the 'Fanatics' will occupy the safe standing area at Selhurst Park as they have continued to stand throughout the match in defiance of the ground regulations. This will allow those wishing to SIT and watch the match to actually do so without having their view obscured by fellow supporters.

Presumably if Palace bring it in they'd do it for the entire lower Holmesdale.

Likely to bring in more issues around how many fans we have that want to stand, and chucking more people who want to sit out of their seats.

I'm behind the move, but it's going to be problematic to bring in.

At the Emirates we were stood the entire game. Made all the more ridiculous that literally 3 feet away the Arsenal supporters weren't allowed to.

The ground regulations of a club (including the ban on persistent standing) form a contract between the supporter and the club. Entering the stadium is a tacit agreement to accept the ground regulations.
By standing, the supporter is in breach of that contract but this is a civil and not a criminal matter.

It is up to individual clubs how they wish to 'Police' this and clearly most clubs take a somewhat relaxed view of this matter given what I have witnessed.

Didn't our chairman say that he has to sell you a seat, but you don't have to sit in it ?

He says a lot of things, including building work was starting on the new stand at the end of this season

All gone very quiet in terms of the new stand project.
Perhaps 'No news is good news' or conversely that things are not 'Tickety-Boo' at this juncture.
News blackout at present !

Personally, I think English terraces were always safe places for standing.
It's only because of the hooliganism problem that fences were built, cages to separate supporters were constructed, and the general attitude of the police and government at the time, towards football fans, was they're all animals - which made them dangerous places to be.

Didn't fell very safe when supporters used to start up that 'Knees up Mother Brown' song which resulted in them surging down the Holmesdale Terrace.

During one such surge I was barged in the back and how I managed to catch my transistor radio before it smashed into pieces on the floor was quite remarkable.T was NOT best pleased at all and made my views known to the perpertrators.

Ha!ha! Willo. Yes, knees up mother brown, was a little bit hairy.
I suppose the lesson here is, leave the transistor radio at home... health and safety don't you know... something those perpetrators would have adhered to I'm sure...

Also, as a precautionary step maybe not stand where the song was sung, after all the holmesdale was a fairly big terrace.

Unless of course, there was another reason for you to stand there with a transistor radio.
