Want-away billionaire investors. Want-Champions-League star player. Awful-looking finances. Poor recent track record of buying great footballers, who fit Palace, at sensible prices & wages. Urgent need to build infrastructure. Wan-Bissaka sure to be coveted. Desperate financial need to stay in the prem. A solid manager who's coming toward the end of his career. This summer will be an incredibly important one.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

This summer will be an incredibly important one. Or Could you look at it another way; Now an established Premier League Club with shares open to buy. Star player a year into a 4 year contract, who loves playing for the team and loves the fans. Established Premier League Club now entering 6th year in the Premier League. Reasonable track record of identifying good Premiership players at low cost - Milo, Tomkins and Gauita. Track record o bringing players through from academy - Zaha and AWB. Which Premiership side wouldn't suffer if they got relegated? Ex England Manager lead us to a comfortable mid table finish. I would add a club number one in South London with a massive catchment area. Yes this summer is important. But depends on whether you are looking at your glass half full or half empty - mine is the former..!! COYP

Part and parcel of being a Palace fan. Summer would not be summer without some sort of crisis.

I would say that this summer is only important in that I can see it being a summer of consolidation - We must not go backwards, but we are unlikely to make any great strides forward either. RH is here, and I think he'll be here next year. In fact I think the plan is for him to be here and keeping us in the PL for as long as it takes to sort our finances out - until we can release people with higher wages etc, and then when we have the space/money, and a stable and strong base sqauad, then we allow RH to retire and replace with someone who can rebuild and be here a long time. The only activity this summer will be keeping hold Of people we want to keep hold of and moving on people who we dont - and hope we make the right choices so we don't have to spunk a load of money in January. As for new Incoming players? only where we have to. i.e replacement for AWB and/or Zaha if they go or addressing problem areas (CB?) Best case is we find a couple of rough diamonds who really improve us without costing us too much.

It's just possible that now we have guaranteed Premier League football next season that H and B's shares will be an easier sell. On the player front it's hard to predict what will happen. I think AWB would benefit from another season with us. And it's possible that we could price Wilf out of a move should he want one. But it looks like we need to sell before we buy...I would expect Benteke to go if we can find a buyer at the right price.

Even 10m probably wouldn't be the 'right price' in light of what we paid and surely that would only come from a crazy Chinese outfit? Personally, I hope Big Ben picks up some form, fitness, stays and delivers next season! Can understand OPs points but that is massively 'glass half full'. I would suggest anyone who expects a summer of revolution or catastrophe to chill. I don't expect much beyond what we're used to this summer with Zaha being constantly linked with a move, interest in other players and us perhaps buying one or three to plump up the squad. Whether RH stays or goes is still up in the balance I reckon, we could end up finishing 10/11/12th which looks good to Parish and co. IMO The only way any sweeping changes will take place is if Zaha does go and I would imagine that would be £50mil+ in which case some of that might be reinvested in the squad. BAU for Palace as far as I'm concerned! COYP
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
