In no way condoning the attack on Grealish , And the rightful prison sentence given and life ban and general outrage . What is the difference with Cantona Kungfooing a spectator ? Did he get a prison sentence ?

Cantona received a two week jail term, reduced to 150 hours community service on appeal

Matthew Simmons ended up serving seven days in prison as a result of the attack.

Cantona was unprofessional to do what he did but he was being targeted and provoked. No man should feel that they can say anything they like to another bloke's face and never expect a reaction.....The final punishments for both seemed about right.

I'm not sure what migrating circumstances the fan had who ran onto the pitch to attack Grealish.

Exactly the same thought occurred to me. While journos and pundits call for lifetime bans, lovable ‘King Eric’ continues to be lauded as an iconic figure in English football.

Utter hypocrisy.

Players are alway being targeted and provoked especially in the older type stadiums. Cantona being the “Professional “ should have know better .

Don’t really want a debate on the Cantona night but I don’t think there is any defence for what that thug did. There is no way he could have heard what Simmonds said and to be fair, the Man U lawyers played a blinder.

I think everyone would agree that if Armstrong had jumped in the Stratford end, he would have received a far harsher sentence.

Birmingham have to accept their share of the blame. They set the tone with the early “tackle” on Grealish to soften him up. The ref bottled it and only gave a yellow card with pundits saying it was because it was early in the game ! So what ? Same as the scum assault on Lucca after 1 minute - that was a sending off but the ref bottled it!
If you don’t want to encourage violence from fans then don’t have your players commit assaults and get refs to get tougher !

Happened with Chris Smalling too! Surprised he did not hold on to the attacker - that is what he always do on the pitch anyway.

Cantona's punishment was laughable. He got to do community service behind closed doors at United's training ground and was given a pay rise by United.

Perhaps gaol was a bit too much but community service scrubbing graffiti off bush shelters in south London would have been better.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
