Nothing to do with using the inherent power of the Church and the positions of individuals within it.

Instead it's all because Gays are being allowed to drive the agenda innit.

I would have thought it clear that Trump and Brexit are the main cause of this. Well that's what the London Economic is about to explain anyway.

Is there anyone who's actually straight in leadership positions in the Catholic Church?

Now that would be a real revelation.

Priests who get married or have girlfriends are common enough; yet these will not get promotions and are often hounded out - instead of the peadophiles who should be.
Of course, I don't need to tell you - there is no actual religious reason why Priests are celibate. That was a more modern development largely due to the possibility of inheritances and other entitlements the church might have been obliged to offer.

the mathematics of this are easy to understand.

take a small simple village : Call it Ballydehob.

Of all the kids growing up there, only 0.01% are nutter weirdos' who prefer to fiddle with kids than to pair off with somebody their own age and start a family. The proverbial village idiot.

now recruit him to the church, send him to the Vatican. Multiply this by a few thousand villages and you have the Vatican....a whole city full of paedo village idiots.

in the past there was a cloak of secrecy. Today we live in the information age.

did you hear about Maynooth priest training 'seminary'? Seemingly a whistleblower in their IT department accidentally leaked the internet search history of all the trainee priests. Whoops !

I always thought it was because they were trying to imitate the life of Jesus but I agree.....it's a repressive idea that....like many repressive ideas can lead to harmful conclusions.

I have mixed feelings about the Church.....on the one hand, apart from the fairy stories I agree with some of its social conservatism, on the other hand....Well I worry about what the other hand is actually doing.

except the 'social conservatism' is only hypocrisy.

You are forgetting that this is Catholicism - sin as much as you like as long as you tell a Priest all the details. That makes me wonder what the other hand is doing.

Beyond mental

It is obvious to anyone with a brain larger than a pea that the unnatural restrictions put on priests causes them to often behave in a particular way. It also encourages certain types of individual to sign up to it.

Allow priests to marry and have sex whenever and with any consenting adult they please and the problem will be reduced to that of the average population.

The same probably applies to Muslim rape gangs minus the racial and misogynistic elements.

i beg to differ. If you are a Catholic Priest then you probably do not fancy Una Healy , and given the opportunity to do some horizontal jogging with said aforementioned fit bird you would decline on the grounds that she is not your type.

this is totally different to the pakistani rape gangs who were a) heterosexual b) mostly waited until their victim hit puberty (just about).

Well we all risk generalisation on such topics but I did imply that certain types of individual might be attracted to the priesthood.

Either way, it is religion that is the cause. It promotes unnatural behaviour and creates an opportunity for sexual exploitation.

I'm not sure that the desire to abuse children is something that develops due to celibacy, it's more likely that the predatory paedophile is attracted to the priesthood due to the trusted position and easy and unquestioned access to children.

Regarding the muslim rape gangs, that's slightly different. The Qu'ran states that you can do anything you want to unbelievers and Muhammad was an actual paedophile as it is written elsewhere that he took a wife who was 9 when he was in his fifties. He did the gentlemanly thing and waited until she was 11 to rape her though. These rapists and their communities justify/turn a blind eye to their behaviour based on Islamic teachings rather than respect the law of land. Doesn't help that senior councillors and old bill are either in on it or too scared to act, but that's another thread.
