Hey I worked in Sorrento and Siclily as a holiday rep and fell victim to these Italian mafia crooks . I parked paid once in pay and display only 6 months later to receive a fine for not paying and displaying which 100% I paid as I know having Italian parents that the southern Italians would rip their own let alone a tourist . I ignored the fine and no comeback . I can't give you much advice but take the hit and ignore it . Buona fortuna Johnny

Invite them over here on a fact-finding tour to learn how to do it properly. Look at all our town centres festooned with ParkingEye and the like with their cameras taking pictures of you and extorting money with menances. Legalised theft. Meanwhile the speed cameras not only fine you £100 a go but also put three points on your license, four of those and you need a railway timetable. (There's one on the A53 going into Chester which it's very difficult to avoid getting pinged by as it's just after the seventh roundabout on a fast dual carriageway and you don't see it until it's too late. £1.5m per year from that camera alone). Then there are the 'bus lanes. Not many 'buses go up and down the Great Western Road in Glasgow but it's 'bus lanes all the way from the St George's Cross exit off the M8 to Drumchapel (as well as 30 mph with an array of cameras and parked vans just beyond them to get you when you think you've passed the speed check). No 'buses anywhere in sight but a queue of stationary cars in the other lane and anyone who ventures into the 'bus lane gets a snotty letter, £100 fine and three points. Even trying to turn left out of this requires extreme caution to avoid an unwanted appearance on Candid Camera. Edinburgh is also equipped with such places. Finally everyone's favourite, the Mismanaged Motorway. Every 200 yards a gantry with a different speed limit over each lane and (obviously) a camera. 50, 70, 60, 70, now 40. 40?? FFS. *screech* *bang*. They've just installed these in a couple of places up here but down south there seems to be hundreds of miles of this s***. If you have any time left over visit lovely Edinburgh and see how long it takes the traffic wardens to ticket you after your meter runs out. My record is 20 seconds. I once made the mistake of putting my seat belt on in a taxi the driver felt I insulted his driving and wouldn't stop moaning at me. Edited by Badger11 (29 Jan 2019 9.47am)

Out of the blue, in May 2016, I received a letter in English from European Municipality Outsourcing stating that as I had missed all payment deadlines, the offence was now 'enforceable', that the amount owing was 452 euros, and that failure to pay within 30 days would result in legal proceedings. It appears that EMO is used by many (but not all) police forces in Italy to administer speeding tickets and fine collections. I emailed EMO without response, so called and spoke to a very helpful lady who spoke perfect English. I explained that the May 2016 letter was the first notification I had received, and she agreed to reduce the amount to the original fine of 238 euros, which I paid. I thought no more about it until reading this thread. I just logged on to the EMO site and found that my payment has been logged as a deposit and 214 euros is still showing as outstanding! I am therefore expecting a further letter in a few years time! My advice at this stage would be to check whether the police force involved subcontracts to EMO. Go to [Link] and follow the 'police command'link to find this out. If the police force concerned subcontracts to EMO, you can expect them to be hounding you for five years and may be more after the offence. If EMO is not involved, you may get away with it ....... As further advice, never rent from Gold Car - they have a reputation for screwing customers with unfair or hidden charges!

I had this a while ago and the rental co charged my debit card, so make sure you don't finish up paying twice, or hire Mr Loophole.
