Anybody have any experience with the cheap MS Office availalble on eBay ? My ex-corporate version is up for renewal and I don't really want to pay official prices from MS. Tx

Much better to use Open Office, which is effectively the same thing, and is free.

It's great for basic word processing and Excel. It has it's own formats but you can choose to save your stuff in the Microsoft formats as well. I also use Thunderbird for my emails. Windows has some anti piracy safeguards so you run the risk of it nor working. Edited by Badger11 (22 Jan 2019 9.27am)

If you have any friends or family that have 365 licence they are entitled to download a copy of office on 5 desktops, 5 phones and 5 tablets. So even if they have a licence through work, if they go onto your machine, go into the microsoft 365 login portal they can download the office suite to your machine. It will just mean if you wanted to save files you should do it locally rather than save it in their onedrive.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Open Office is good but "Libre Office" has effectively superceded it. Its free and multi platform. It can also read, edit and save any MS Word, Excel docs... I ditched Microdosh OS and software years ago because of licensing and costs and use Ubuntu (Linux) instead which is also free and have never looked back.
