Listening to RH interview after the Warford game he said Palace are looking for free or loans only (bargain basement) deals as we don't have the funds available. I find this a bit depressing to say the least, how are we ever going to progress? So does this mean we need more new investment?

They can stick their stadium where the son don't shine if this is the real reason for no investment but I highly doubt it's the case and just an excuse. I think we're some of the better fans out of the Premier League lot and would understand if a big shiny Academy had just been built in South Croydon and we signed a load of Chelsea/Tottenham/Arsenal under 16 talent with the clear direction of putting a Youth infrastructure in place. That isn't the case though. They have grand ideas of a stadium plan that will never happen and if it does, how are we going to fill it either in a relegation Prem scrap with hardly any wins at home or more likely down in the Championship. Tottenham are a great example of how to do it - buy the players to attain your target and then focus on the Stadium and freeze the funds. Tottenham have never had ambitions to win the league (despite what their fans think) but consistent top 4 finishes was the priority. Once they attained that after spending big on the likes or Lloris, Eriksen etc, they moved onto the Stadium. Typical Palace though, our ambition is comfortable 10th consistently and we aren't quite there yet, spend another 2 years getting that in place and fine, do your stadium but stop trying to run before you can walk.

I do wonder what the Americans were brought in for,our last few transfer windows have been shocking. We badly need quality signings who can go straight into the first team. This squad minus Yohan has been together for 2-3 years. I think the Americans get an easy ride, as the Palace fans vent there frustrations at Parrish. We also seem to be the only club who abides by ffp. Everton for instance were always buying at the lower end of the market. Farhad Moshiri comes in and they start signing £50 million pound players.

Someone needs to sort that FFP thing as well, you're right. A little bit like my rant above (don't worry I won't go that long on this) I think FFP is an excuse but if it is actually true, can we hire an experienced football Accountant to figure out how literally every other team bar possibly Cardiff get away with it? I know the correct solution is to make every other club copy Palace and actually follow the rules but as that seems impossible can we start cheating it ourselves please? We signed Benteke and Sakho for relatively big money (around 50 mil staggered over separate transfer windows) and it's somehow crippled the club for at least 3 Windows. Why?

Just listened to that interview and he categorically states that we are in for free transfers and loans only. I honestly don't think we'll get anyone then, because if they are sitting on the bench of another club, they're not going to be any better than what we've got.

My point exactly, do we have any ambition to go further?

I believe they were ‘brought in’ by SP and Co because they wanted to sell some of their shares in our club. And personally I wouldn’t blame our owners for cashing out and securing their financial futures. The American investors are just that; investors. They are not sugar daddies. They have no secondary agenda. They have no affiliation to the club. It’s purely financial. They have invested their money to reap a return and make a profit. Any proposed transfer must therefore satisfy this business objective. And given the relatively modest rewards for finishing higher up the table it is my guess that their strategy will be to spend the minimum amount to avoid relegation. After all, where’s the incentive to shell out tens of millions of pounds simply to finish 9th or 10th when the extra prize money for doing so won’t even come close to covering those costs, let alone generate a return. In this context RH’s bargain basement comments make perfect sense.

Our ambition is the fault of failing to score quite easy opportunities at this moment in time, but we have been fairly consistent in creating good opportunities in this league and that is a good base for the clubs ambition for now. Luck has been against us, many clubs below would love to have just luck to worry about.

I also saw someone mention on Twitter at the weekend because the way FFP works we have a fairly hefty sum too play with in the Summer window (Don't ask me how )
