Personally I don't view them as migrants but rather illegal invaders. A migrant is somone who leaves a dangerous country to find a safe one (first one). When these people arrive at our shore having passed through numerous safe counties they get care and accomidation to then disapear. I think this liberal attitude of taking them all in has accelerated this problem. Turning them back to safe france would be my answer and sends a message of no tolerance. What's your answer?

Labour are already complaining and so far we are not sending the lucky few back. Corbyn has said
"We have a duty to reach out the hand of humanity, support and friendship to people who are in danger and seeking a place of safety."

The problem with that is you are encouraging criminal gangs. As for the migrants themselves well only the richest and hardiest can make the journey and they may not be the most deserving.

I think David Cameron (for once) had a more sensible idea. We should be strong on our borders and deport these people straight back to France so eventually the smugglers will give up. However we should have a scheme to allow in a certain number of people each year taking the most deserving directly from refugee camps after having completed criminal checks etc.

PS
I wouldn't call it a crisis (yet) as the numbers are relatively small but the government must crack down to stop it getting out of hand.

Where do we send people back to France or Iran? I don't understand the attraction of the UK over France that people are risking their lives crossing the channel in inflatables.

I believe we should send them back to France. Why they want to come to the UK? As I have mentioned on other threads it is far easier to claim asylum in the UK than many EU countries and once you are legal it is easier to get a job. Despite what the Remainers say we are a very tolerant country other EU countries talk the talk they don't all walk the walk.

220 since November into the UK while Greece takes 10,000 a day. It isn't a crisis for the UK for anyone that isn't an alarmist racist.

Perhaps we should have thought for carefully about our dodgy foreign policy and stopped making the countries these people are fleeing from war zones.

Is Iran a war zone?

Did we invade Iran?

I agree it's not a crisis as the numbers are low but don't forget that the 220 is what we know about. There have been plenty of reports of abandoned dingies found on the beaches of the south coast so it is likely to be a higher number.

There was a ‘migrant-support-campaigner-type lady’ speaking on the BBC this morning. She said that Calais is a pretty horrible place for these people ergo it’s not surprising that they are desperate to get across to the UK.

That’s Calais, in France; a member of the EU.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

So if Calais was really nice, they'd all want to stay?

OK get it now the French make their country a horrible place for migrants so that's why they all want to come to racist UK.

so when they get to the UK most disappear. This could be the missing link and everyone is looking in the wrong place.
I would guess they are trying to reach people already here so for that reason if your caught harboring an invader that should be either, a revoked passport if they are legal migrants or prison. They still are not even sure how many died at Grenfell! times that by all the council blocks in Britain, I dread to think how many are here !!

That's not a migrant, that's a refugee or an asylum seeker. A migrant is someone who moves from one country to another for whatever reason (like me, for example).

Obviously if they all have to be accommodated in the first "safe" country then you have ten million in Greece and none anywhere else. That might be your idea of paradise but it isn't exactly right, is it?
