Make sure you have a UK bolt hole. You never know what can happen, ill health, change of government natural disaster etc. If you have to return where are you going to live?

Make sure you have enough money if you do go you can burn through your savings quickly and getting a local job may not be easy as the local (unlike the Brits) may favour their own.

MY last piece of advice I had a 4 week holiday on Teneriffe as a test. If I enjoyed it I was thinking of moving their. At the end of the holiday I was bored stiff and glad to come home so do a little try out before you finally commit.

Malta? Good weather, good connections home, English speaking, low unemployment rate so getting work should be ok - quite cheap from Gatwick at least for recce.

I moved to Thailand in 2012 still here now but the government is making the visas harder and harder for people under 50. Cheap rent, cheap golf, plenty of things to do and great cuisine. However because the visa is becoming an issue I've been looking elsewhere visited Philippines, the island of cebu as visa are far easier to obtain. However didn't particularly feeel safe 40 shootings in ten days!

Heading to look into Vietnam in the new year to see what that's like as visa are a bit easier so I've been told.
Medical cover is a must.
Have an emergency fund.
If you own a property in uk don't sell it rent it out. Gives you an income and if it's not for you you have always got somewhere to go back to.
Check the visa out to the country you want to reside in!
Always have return ticket to the UK and not a cheap flight ticket with restrictions.
Good luck!

Come to Scotland.

The weather's great - if you're a duck.

Useless for watching Palace matches that aren't on Sky or BT though. Easier in Outer Mongolia, darkest Africa or some tin-pot island in the South Pacific than in the country where they're actually played FFS.

Get a job first, have a bolt hole, be prepared to learn a language.

Once abroad,
Considerations are where to get english sausages, Marmite, twiglets etc.
Where to get UK TV or sports channels.
Why the hell didn't you make that decision 10 years earlier.

I have been an expat for 30+ years and wouldn't consider moving back to the UK, although I do like visiting for a game or five each season.
I have ex pat friends in a lot of countries (Philippines, Egypt, Thailand, South Africa amongst others).

Switzerland is an Easyjet flight, further afield needs to be taken into consideration, depends what lifestyle you are looking for.

Yeah Malta crossed my mind before my sense of ‘humour’ got the better of me and I posted ‘England’.

I’m told by people who have visited that the Maltese love the British. Quite a rare thing in Europe these days! It’s said that this feeling dates back to the 2nd World War, when the British Goverment awarded the country and its people the George Cross, for the bravery shown in the face of the German onslaught.

Have just purchased a property out in Alicante, not looking to move 'full-time' for a couple of years yet. As others have said, make sure you have a bolt hole to return to, do a recce 1st, make sure you got emergency funds, it can/will cost a lot more than you think buying property abroad.

Good luck with where ever you decide

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Best thing I ever did was move to Europe in 2002. Worst thing I ever did was move back here last July I’ll be back in Budapest within a year. If I was you I’d just go for it, almost anywhere is better than here.
