Sigh! Whatever happened to a nice painting, sculpture, pile of bricks or a light being turned on and off?

I should think Turner would be turning in his grave....

I saw this last week with a friend.

We had gone to see the Edward Burns Jones exhibit (marvellous by the way). As I have a Tate membership we popped in. The very nice man on the door hinted it was a load of cr*ap and that was an underestimation. We were out in under 2 mins I would have been furious if I had paid for that rubbish.

4 films that a 12yo with a pocket phone could have done better.

I have memberships to the Tate and the National Art Pass and whilst I have no in-depth knowledge of art I usually see about half a dozens exhibitions each year. I know rubbish when I see it.

I hate the Turner prize.

Forgot to add the first film we saw was "shaky" cam about an incident involving Palestinian protestors and Israeli soldiers. Cos wonder where the artists sympathy were.

The reason it was rubbish is because we get an explanation of the incident and yet you see none of this on the video.

If that is the benchmark next year I will submit a painting of the Mona Lisa. What do you mean you can't see her? She's behind that brick wall.

For anyone unable to tune into the ceremony tonight on (surprise, surprise) the BBC, here are synopses of the four contenders (cut and pasted from the link I included in my original post).

Forensic Architecture
An interdisciplinary team that includes architects, filmmakers, lawyers and scientists, Forensic Architecture’s work uses the built environment as a starting point for explorations into human rights violations.

Naeem Mohaiemen
Encompassing films, installations, and essays, his practice investigates transnational left politics in the period after the Second World War, the legacies of decolonisation and the erasing and rewriting of memories of political utopias.

Charlotte Prodger
She works predominantly with moving image, sculpture, writing and performance. Her work explores issues surrounding queer identity, landscape, language technology and time.

Luke Willis Thompson
Working across film, performance, installation and sculpture, his works tackle traumatic histories of class, racial and social inequality, institutional violence, colonialism and forced migration.

I'd definitely miss the match this evening to watch this. Sounds completely relevant to me.

Charlotte Prodger is completely relevant to Brighton fans, I would think.

Yet more pretentious bollocks masquerading as Art. Wasn't there a famous skit a few years back where young kids or chimps painted on canvas, they then set them up in a gallery & had some of these dimwits fawning all over it !

Oh dear double standards.
A spade a spade in her interview.
She said some old line about growing up queer.
Wow if i used that term for a gay person.
Or maybe it was an under counter dig at the
LGBT bollox going on lately.

Real artists produce worthwhile creations while untalented poseurs (Emin and the like} produce the type of nonsense you see in the Turner Prize entries.

None of this stuff relates to the genius of Turner himself. It is largely a con encouraged by Saatchi and his financial backers for people to invest in rubbish which then acquires a value for the next chump to pay even more

Frankly it's not worth bothering to even look at or discuss.
